Speaking after inaugurating state-sponsored two-day job fair hereon Saturday, he said that the government aims to provide employment to one lakh unemployed youths by March 2009.
Revealing that reputed companies including Toyota Motors, Maruthi, Reliance, Taj Hotel Group, L&T will recruit eligible candidates in similar fairs scheduled to be held at Hubli in November and Gulbarga in December, Yeddyurappa declared that the government is committed to provide 10 lakh jobs in the next five years.
Top 10 Biggest Security Threats Of The FutureThe Chief Minister said that apart from arranging job fairs, the government will impart training in skill development for youths depending on their educational qualification. A sum of Rs 25 cr has been allotted for this purpose and a like sum, if found necessary, will be granted.
Delivering the key-note address, Labour Minister B N Bachche Gowda said that the Department of Employment and Training has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Koushalya Shaale run by Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited, Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, Builders Association of India and L&T for training 30,000 eligible candidates. Government bears training expenses and trainees will be paid stipend of Rs 1,000 per month during the course of training.

The Job Fair offered hundreds of unemployed youths an opportunity to look out job requirements in many companies. Manish Sabharwal, director of Team Lease, a corporate with which the government organised the fair, said 88 companies with job requirements varying from 7,000 to 15,000 are taking part in the fair.
“Unemployed youths first register their names along with contact details. Considering their educational qualification they will be asked to report to respective stalls. Company representatives ask candidates to fill up the pro-forma and ask them to take written test. Candidates who have appeared for written test will get responses within a couple of days. Companies in urgent need of manpower will contact successful candidates over phone”, he said. The job fair is being held at Koramangala Indoor Stadium between 10 am and 5 pm.
UNHELPFUL HELPLINE Bangalore, DHNS: Chief Minister Yeddyurappa launched a 24-hour helpline (080 - 6001 2345) for the benefit of unemployed youths. When Deccan Herald dialled this number there was no response.
Repeated efforts between 5 pm and 6 pm elicited no response from the other side. On the 11th attempt, a female voice was heard asking the caller to press 1 for conversation in English and 2 for conversation in Kannada. After pressing 1 a ring tone was heard which continued for three minutes. However, there was no response later. Along with the helpline, the Department of Employment also launched official website (www.karskills.com) on the occasion.
